On February 27, 2015, Senator Marty Block introduced SB 634, which would authorize California to participate in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA).
California, in part due to its size and diversity of institutional types, has a more complex regulatory history and structure than most states and the introduction of SB 634 signifies widespread support for SARA.
Key higher education stakeholders (i.e., University of California System, California State University System, California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office and the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities) agree that SARA offers benefits to the state, institutions and students. Ongoing discussions and drafting sessions continue toward refining statutory language prior to its legislative hearing expected near the end of April 2015.
